About Wordbox

Wordbox is a daily five-letter word puzzle. One word a day, the same for everyone, six guesses. No account, no notifications, no energy meter, and no way to pay to play more.

How the daily word is chosen

Puzzles are numbered from 1 January 2026 and drawn in order from a curated list of just under six hundred common words — a little over a year and a half of play before the list wraps. The day is calculated in UTC, so everyone works on the same word at the same moment regardless of time zone.

Answers are deliberately ordinary. No proper nouns, no abbreviations, no plurals formed by tacking on an s, and nothing you would have to look up. A puzzle that hinges on an obscure word is not difficult, only irritating. A wider list of everyday words is accepted as guesses even though they will never be the answer, so you are rarely told that a perfectly normal word does not exist.

Your streak stays yours

Statistics and streaks are held in your browser's local storage. Nothing is transmitted, we cannot see your results, and there is no leaderboard — building one would require accounts and tracking, which is a poor trade for a game that takes two minutes a day.

The tradeoff is honest: your streak is tied to that browser on that device, and clearing your browsing data will reset it. See the privacy policy for specifics.

How this site is funded

Wordbox is free and supported by advertising through third-party partners who may set cookies. Ads appear in three fixed positions: above the board, beside it on desktop, and inside the end-of-game card.

There is deliberately no ad between guesses and no interstitial before the board loads. A word game lives or dies on how quickly you can get in, play, and leave. Interrupting a six-guess puzzle to serve an impression would earn marginally more and make the game genuinely worse, which is a bad trade at any CPM.
